Total Time:10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 French bread loaf
  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ teaspoon olive oil optional

Optional toppings

  • pepperoni slices, bell peppers, cooked bacon slices crumbled, mushrooms, onions, cooked sausage, basil, parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Slice the French bread in half lengthwise and then again in half widthwise so that you have 4 pieces all approximately the same size or into thirds for a total of 6 pieces.
  • Preheat air fryer if necessary for 2 minutes at 350°.
  • Place two pieces of the French loaf in the air fryer in a single layer soft cut side facing up.
  • Spray lightly with olive oil if desired. This is my favorite oil sprayer to use for cooking in the air fryer. If I'm looking to save calories, I skip this step.
  • Set air fryer temperature to 350 degrees f and cook bread for 2 minutes.
  • Remove air fryer basket and place a thin layer of the sauce of your choice over the top of the pizza bread stopping just short of the edges.
  • Add cheese and any toppings you would like. Place the air fryer basket back in to the air fryer and cook at 350 degrees for 5 minutes.
  • The cheese should be a nice golden brown. If you need to cook it longer, do so in 1 minute increments.

Notes

  • Decrease the cooking time by one minute for softer crust and gooey cheese.
  • I like to look for day old bread at the grocery store or my local bakery that I can get for a discount. It's an easy way to save money on this family favorite.

Variations

  • Sprinkle pizza with Italian seasoning, parmesan cheese, extra mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices, fresh basil, bell peppers, and red pepper flakes.
  • Make a mini pizza bar with the above toppings and allow your family or guests to make their own type of pizza.
  • Cut each piece in half quarters for mini pizzas.

Storage

Once cooled, store any leftovers in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
